DCC Records Re-Issue
| Performance 8 | Sound 6.5 | From the archives of BMG music comes a classic 1961 Harry Belafonte record entitled Jump Up Calypso re-mastered and re-released by DCC Jazz. The record is defined by the distinctively raspy voice of Harry Belafonte and accompanied by both large and small ensembles with a true island flavor. Some of the strongest cuts include "Sweetheart From Venezuela", "Go Down Emanuel Road" and "Jump In The Line". Jump Up Calypso has the same intangibly fun feel that you get from Bob Marley and other island music. The recording quality is not a 10 however you can definitely hear the influence of the re-mastering by DCC. While it might not be the best audiophile quality recording, it has something much more important which is great, fun songs. I'll trade great songs for a little recording quality every time. |
