Even though "Hooray From Boobies" is the Bloodhound Gang’s first major label release, it is eagerly anticipated due to the success of the album’s first single "Bad Touch." Alternative rock stations around the country have "Bad Touch" in heavy rotation, introducing the country to the Bloodhound Gang’s unique brand of perverse humor. "Bad Touch" is known by many as the "Discovery Channel song," as its lyrics repeatedly state exactly what is on the mind of many listeners with strong libidos: "You and me baby, ain’t nothing but mammals/So let’s do it like they do it like they do it on the Discovery Channel." The lyrics go on to elaborate on the desire to mate as seen on the Discovery Channel, even throwing in some practical pointers. For example, if you do it doggy style, you can both watch The X-files. Imaginative lyrics, fun upbeat music and practical advice all in one song - what more could you ask for? You can ask for more because the album is filled with songs that are equally crude, rude and hilarious. The lyrics of "Hooray for Boobies" remind me of Eminem’s words, except that these are set to a fun pop-rock rhythm and focus much more heavily on sex. Both share a sense of outrageousness and are crazy enough to make you laugh out loud. Other tracks on the album include "Three Point One Four," which describes just what front man Jimmy Pop is looking for in a girlfriend. While many men may agree with Jimmy’s sentiments, they would most likely be better off if they don’t admit it in front of any feminist activists. The album continues with such tracks as "The Ballad of [Porn Star] Chasey Lain" and "A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When The Stripper Is Crying," the last track title allegedly inspired by a real-life incident. They are rude, crude and funny as hell. The rhythms are catchy and upbeat pop-rock. The lyrics are outlandish and hilarious if you are not easily offended. Bloodhound Gang’s live shows are not something to miss, especially if you enjoy being in the middle of a sea of young, sexually charged, fun-loving fans. This album is definitely worth checking out. Just don’t play it near any prudes who will want to know why you’re having such a good time. |
