The
first two months of live, high-definition coverage of NHL games has
been announced by the league and HDNET. The 52-game schedule begins
opening night on Wednesday, October 5 with Wayne Gretzky’s coaching
debut as his Phoenix Coyotes take on the Vancouver Canucks. Other first
week highlights include the Central Division rivalry between the St.
Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings and Sidney Crosby’s first game for
the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Boston Bruins.
HDNet’s telecast will be shot in 1080i format, giving viewers all the benefits of a 16:9 aspect ratio without compromising the image to serve a standard-definition 4:3 audience.
